The Building Inspector is appointed by the Township Supervisor and is approved by the Township Board and is  a part-time position. 

Description: The building Inspector performs inspection assignments to ensure that new construction and alterations in private and public buildings are in compliance with established codes, laws, and regulations. The Inspector must be able to exercise considerable independent judgement in making decisions requiring the interpretation of guidelines in specific situations.

Duties:
1. Inspect new construction, installations, and alterations of private and public buildings to ensure that codes, laws, and regulations established by the State of MI and Cambridge Township are met. 
2. Inspect approve plans, specifications, and permits for proposed projects.
3. Review proposed construction plans and documents to determine compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and codes.
4. Explain, both verbally and in writing, the building codes, laws, and regulations to architects, engineers, property owners, and contractors.
5. Subsequent to gathering evidence on reported or observed code violations, written notices of such violations shall be issued and appropriate corrective action taken.
6. Testify at administrative hearings and in court regarding violations of building codes, laws, or regulations.
7. Represent the Township at related meetings, seminars, and conferences.
8. Prepare and/or maintain reports, files, and written correspondence.
9. Perform related work as assigned.
